Designing Graphics for Your Water Rockets

The article below was written by Spencer Spacy and describes how you can easily make some quick changes to your fleet of water rockets that will make them stand out from the crowd.

Decal Modifications for Water Rockets

Water rockets are an incredibly fascinating hobby. You can take an ordinary two liter pop bottle and turn it into a gravity deifying wet missile with just a few additional parts and a bicycle pump. For the purpose of this article I am already assuming you have a water rocket and want to improve the design.

There are a number of ways you can improve the looks of your pride and joy. You can paint the nose cone or the fins of your water rockets. The problem with paint is it adds extra weight to the fuselage. If your stabilizer fins are made from wood such as balsa wood you can use a permanent marker to create a cool design on them and this is much lighter than paint. Or you can create nice decals and logos for your water rockets on your computer and print them out on transparent adhesive paper. After you print them out and apply them to the fins, nose cone or fuselage you will need to cover them with transparent tape to prevent the printer ink from running when it is exposed to the water. The tape that I find works best is the 2 inch wide clear packing tape as it is big enough to cover most designs and can be cut to shape.

If you don’t have the clear printer paper you can use regular paper and just cut around the graphic. Then put the tape over it to prevent smudging and running. If you don’t want to design your own graphics for your water rockets, you can visit the wet missiles graphic page (http://www.water-rockets.net/graphics-for-aqua-missiles/) for some spaceship related graphics that you can use to get you started. Good luck with your modding!
